In situ concrete construction is utilised at ground level and on suspended upper floors.
velta pipes embedded within the structural concrete can utilise the excellent thermal properties of structural concrete to provide heating and cooling to many buildings.
Working with partners, Stuarts Industrial Flooring, velta can provide a single package for the installation and warranty of the concrete and heating/cooling system. Alternatively, velta staff will liaise closely with the clients chosen contractor to ensure that the build programme runs smoothly and the concrete is installed without problems or delay.
This type of construction has been used in applications for – retail units, distribution warehouses, schools, universities, health and office buildings.
Case Studies
A scheme to build one of the world’s greenest business and logistics parks in North Staffordshire has become the first BREEAM "Oustanding" development using 27,000m² of the velta one slab system.
The flagship B&Q store in New Malden, London benefits from having 9,000m² of the velta classic heating and cooling system in the slab, contributing to renewable energy sources on site.
This project involved the construction of industrial and office units as part of the London Olympics re-location plan. 15,000m² of the velta one industrial heating and cooling system was cast directly into the floor slabs.
Barr Construction secured the contract to provide 3 new primary schools, covering 16,500m² for Midlothian Council of which velta cast an in situ heating system.
In 2008 at the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) in Rotherham, construction started on a new addition, the Environmental Energy Technology Centre (EETC. velta installed a contec heating and cooling system.
The Balanced Office Building in Aachen saves 94% energy for cooling and 60% energy for lighting through its daylight control. velta offered a solution in the form of the velta contec, which provides comfort, flexibility and effective energy saving.
The new Networks Services Centre will focus the Dublin operations of Bord Gáis Networks in one single location, accommodating 315 staff on 5200m²over two storeys and incorporates, training facilities, a gym, maintenance workshops & Bord Gais 24hr gas emergency response call centre. Designed completely around the principles of sustainability and energy conservation the building achieves a BREEAM Excellent rating and incorporates features such as solar panels, photovoltaic cells, ground source heat pumps, velta Thermally Activated Slabs and a complete green roof.
CAFOD’s Headquarters has been designed as an exemplar of sustainable workplace design. The 5 storey building achieves an Excellent BREEAM rating through the integration of building technologies and techniques.
