The project
Having completed several health centres with heating only applications working directly for Eric Wright, velta developed a solution to provide the future option of combined heating and cooling.
The Platt Bridge health centre, recently completed with Eric Wright Construction was officially opened earlier this year. The new centre houses three GP practices to replace the existing premises.
The building is part of the ongoing LIFT initiative in Wigan; Britain’s biggest ever project to improve frontline primary health and social care facilities and services.
velta has also completed two more centres in Accrington, part of the East Lancashire LIFT scheme, which have heating and cooling capability, covering 9,000m˛.
The solution
velta have designed, supplied and installed more than 20,000m˛ of the velta classic and tecto screed system to provide both heating and cooling capability to these schemes.
Standard sand cement screeds and pumped flowing screeds have been installed under velta’s contract using their screed partner, Stuarts.
The benefits
Providing a cooling capability for the buildings brings added value for the client and provides future proofing for change of use.
The system can be linked with ground source heat pumps or air to water heat pumps to provide environmentally friendly solutions.
The single point of responsibility through velta for the complete floor construction and the critical programme implications of completing the works to schedule are key factors behind Eric Wright continuing this relationship with velta over the last 6 years.
