The Project
The nine Highland Schools for Highland Council is the biggest building programme ever to be undertaken by a local authority in the Highlands, and one of the largest floor heating contracts for Scotland.
The project provides three secondary schools, five primary schools, one combined primary and secondary school and a special educational needs school. Eight of the schools are located around Inverness, and one each at Portree (Isle of Skye) and Kinlochleven.
The Solution
velta designed, supplied and installed more than 70,000m² of floor heating and screed to the 11 schools located in remote locations throughout the Highlands. Consistent planning and coordination was required to bring the projects in to timely completions.
Recycled glass was used in the screeds to improve the environmental benefits and to assist with material supplies to remote locations.
The benefits
Floor heating systems in schools provide a system which is:
•Unobtrusive and safe
•Low maintenance
•Energy efficient
•Cost effective to install
•Designed to last the life of the building
